Wooden Sailboat Blog

“Welcome to my sailboat restoration blog.”

Laminating the Keel

The beaching of the boat has shaved down the keel quite a bit. I decided to laminate some extra layers on there.

Bent and glued

The piece of white oak is laminated onto the existing keel.

With an electric hand planner and the belt sander the surface is flattened out. There was not much material missing but it was in a crucial place.

Clamping Tab

The shape of the oak piece was matching the narrowing of the keel. At the end we left a larger tab in order to clamp the extra to the bow.

Steamed and Epoxied

With lamination filler and fast hardener the oak was on very solid. Only very little filling was needed on the sides.
