The rough sanding was done with a belt sander cross grain. That gave me a very flat surface.
Finish Sanding...
I finish sanded with a hand sander. In the steps of 80, 120, 220, 320, 600... 
Water and more water...
Like the sanding steps I use water to get a batter result between each sanding step. 80-water-80-water-120-water-120-...... and on and on...
The chemicals...
I somehow ended up with Interlux. After some research I found this to give me the golden look I was looking for.
