Wooden Sailboat Blog

“Welcome to my sailboat restoration blog.”

Aft Rub Rail

This piece had to be laminated. The arch of the deck is matched much more precisely than steam bending.

Sanded and routered. The rail is 1 x 3/4. This way you can hold on to the boat by holding the rail.

Taking measure on the deck do create the jig.

3 layers laminated together. I over-bent the rail about 1/2 inch. It returned into almost perfect position.

I used Gorilla glue to avoid visible glue seams.

Like mentioned before the "over-bending" resulted in an almost perfect match.
